Age Divisions

The Right Competition at Every Stage of Development

The Canadian Academy Soccer League (CASL) organizes competition by age and appropriate playing format to create meaningful opportunities for player development.

Available age divisions may vary by season, region, and the number of participating teams.

Youth Age Divisions

CASL may offer competition across youth age groups including:

U8 • U9 • U10 • U11 • U12 • U13 • U14 • U15 • U16 • U17 • U18

Specific divisions offered each season will depend on club participation and regional demand.

Playing Formats

Age divisions may use developmentally appropriate formats including:

5v5 • 7v7 • 9v9 • 11v11

CASL will publish the applicable playing format, match duration, roster requirements, and competition rules for each division before the season.

Boys & Girls Competition

CASL may offer separate Boys and Girls divisions where sufficient participation exists.

Additional competition structures may be introduced based on club demand and available opportunities.

Competitive Levels

Where enough teams participate within an age group, CASL may create multiple competitive divisions or tiers.

Team placement may consider competitive level, previous playing experience, geography, and information provided by participating clubs.

The objective is simple:

More competitive games. Fewer mismatches. Better player development.

Geographic Divisions

CASL may organize age groups into regional conferences or divisions to reduce unnecessary travel.

As participation grows, successful teams may have opportunities to compete beyond their local region through:

Cross-Regional Competition • Championships • Cups • Special Events

Playing Up

CASL may permit players or teams to participate in older age divisions where allowed under applicable competition rules.

Player safety and appropriate competitive placement must always be considered.

Division Formation

CASL reserves the right to combine, divide, or restructure age groups when necessary to create viable and competitive divisions.

Final divisions will be confirmed before each competition begins.

Built to Grow With the Player

From developmental small-sided soccer to full-field competition, CASL’s goal is to provide players with increasingly challenging opportunities as they develop.

Develop. Compete. Progress.
