The Canadian Academy Soccer League (CASL) provides organized competition designed to connect academies and clubs through appropriate, competitive, and development-focused match opportunities.
CASL competitions may be organized according to age, playing format, competitive level, geography, season, and the number of participating teams.
1. Age Divisions
CASL may offer competition across multiple youth age divisions based on club demand and regional participation.
Available divisions will be announced before each competition period.
Where appropriate, CASL may combine or restructure divisions to create stronger and more sustainable competition.
2. Playing Formats
Depending on age and competition, CASL may offer:
5v5 • 7v7 • 9v9 • 11v11
The applicable format, match duration, field requirements, roster guidelines, and competition rules will be established for each division.
3. Competitive Divisions
Where participation allows, CASL may organize teams into different competitive levels.
Team placement may consider:
- Age and competitive level
- Previous results or playing history
- Club-provided team information
- Geographic location
- Travel requirements
- Competitive balance
The goal is to create meaningful matches rather than simply placing every team of the same age into one division.
4. Geographic Competition
CASL is designed to support competition across multiple communities and regions.
Regional divisions or conferences may be created where appropriate to reduce unnecessary travel while maintaining meaningful competition.
Teams may also participate in cross-regional matches, championships, or special competitions.
5. Seasons
CASL may operate:
Outdoor Seasons • Indoor/Winter Competition • Short Seasons • Cup Competitions • Tournaments • Special Events
Available competitions may vary by region and facility availability.
6. Home-Field Model
CASL may use a club-supported home-field model in which participating organizations provide suitable available field times for their home matches.
This model allows CASL to expand competition into different communities while utilizing existing club facilities.
All submitted facilities must meet applicable CASL Field & Match Standards.
7. Competitive Balance
CASL may review division placement throughout the competition-planning process.
Where necessary and permitted by competition regulations, CASL may adjust structures to improve competitive balance.
The objective is to provide matches that support development, challenge, and meaningful competition.
8. Standings & Championships
Applicable competitions may include:
- Regular-season standings
- Divisional championships
- Playoffs
- Cup competitions
- Regional championships
- National or inter-regional events
The format for each competition will be announced before the applicable season.
9. Expansion
As CASL membership grows, new divisions and geographic regions may be introduced based on demand.
CASL’s long-term objective is to create a connected competition network that allows academies and clubs to compete locally while providing pathways to broader regional and national competition.
